Normally, I always recommend newborns are photographed when they are less than 14 days old. This is because with each day of life they uncurl and become more alert and those sleepy curled poses are less likely to be successful. Newborn acne and colicky behavior is also likely to be making it’s appearance the older a baby is as well. My friend and talented photographer, Suzy (Simply by Suzy in Chicago), came along to assist and I’m so thankful she caught a couple images of me. Newborn sessions take time because the baby’s needs come first and foremost. Those squishy curled poses are only achieved when he/she is sound asleep, so a great deal of time is taken to make sure the tummy is full and he/she is sleeping peacefully. The room is nice and warm and I think we even caught this little guy’s Dad taking a cat-nap. lol Attention to detail (fingers, toes) is key as well when photographing newborns.
However, every once in a while babies older than the recommended age do very well. And nearing three weeks old, this little guy is definitely one of them. He was sleepy, peaceful and content. This little sweetie warmed my heart. His little features, his beautiful soft brown hair and his deep soulful eyes were striking. His parents were both so friendly and Suzy and I had a wonderful time chatting with them in-between poses.
Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph your new son. He is an amazing blessing.
